Liposuction New York City

Also known as lipoplasty, liposuction slims and reshapes specific areas of the body in both men and women by removing excess fat deposits, improving your body contours and proportion, and ultimately, enhancing your self-image. .Despite good health and a reasonable level of fitness, some people may still have a body with disproportionate contours due to localized fat deposits. These areas may be due to family traits rather than a lack of weight control or fitness.

Liposuction surgery can be used to treat stubborn fat pockets in many parts of the body including the inner and outer thighs, knees, hips, waist, back, and chest; cheeks, chin, and neck; calves, and ankles; upper arms. In some cases, liposuction is performed for a single area while in other cases multiple areas are addressed. It can also be done in conjunction with other plastic surgery procedures as well such as a facelift, breast reduction, or tummy tuck. Although all the above areas apply to both men and women, men more frequently have liposuction of the flanks (“love handles”), the abdomen and the breasts (Gynecomastia). Liposuction of the calves and ankles giving a more shapelier leg, is done mostly in women.

The ideal patient for liposuction is at a normal and desirable weight with stubborn fat deposits and contour irregularities. It is not a treatment for weight loss. That being said, however, there is also a real place to help full bodied individuals who cannot lose weight to achieve better composition and contours of their bodies. Liposuction can therefore be done on full bodied people. A full bodied woman given new feminine curves and able to wear more fashionable clothing as a result of liposuction, derives the same exciting sense of femininity.

At your consultation, Dr. Simone will review your medical history, the problems that concern you, your expectations and desired outcome . After a thorough examination, he will tell discuss how he can help you achieve your expectations outlining the areas to be treated and the likely outcome. He will gladly discuss all options available, risk and complications and answer all your questions.

Surgery is on ambulatory/same day basis and is performed at Dr. Simone’s accredited Park Plastic Surgery Center or the ambulatory center at Lenox Hill Hospital. Be sure to arrange for someone to drive you to and from surgery and to stay with you for at least the first night following surgery. Anesthesia is usually local anesthesia with deep sedation (known as ‘twilight’ anesthesia) administered by a physician anesthesiologist. Occasionally, epidural anesthesia is used when treating areas below the waist. Dr. Simone and his anesthesiologist will recommend the best choice for you.

Incisions:

Liposuction is performed through multiple small, inconspicuous incisions. A sterile solution is infused to reduce bleeding and trauma and provide anesthesia. Then a thin hollow tube, or cannula, is inserted through these incisions to loosen excess fat using a controlled back and forth motion, suctioning out the fat using a surgical vacuum attached to the cannula. Once your procedure is completed, a compression garment or elastic bandages may cover treatment areas. These help to control swelling after liposuction and compress the skin to your new body contours. You will be given specific instructions by Dr. Simone that may include: How to care for the surgical site(s), medications to apply or take orally to aid healing and reduce the potential for infection, specific concerns to look for at the surgical site or in your general health, and when to follow up with your plastic surgeon.

A special note:

Secondary procedures may sometimes be recommended to reduce excess skin. Special considerations are needed when large amounts – usually more than 5 liters of fat – are suctioned.

Problem areas that can be addressed with liposuction:

Your improved body contour will be apparent when the swelling and fluid retention commonly experienced following liposuction subside. It may take several months for the swelling to fully dissipate after liposuction surgery. The fulfillment you feel from the initial results of liposuction should continue as long as you control your weight and maintain a healthy lifestyle with continued practices of healthy diet and fitness, so that the loss of excess fatty tissue should be permanently maintained. However, substantial weight gain can alter an otherwise permanent result.

“ Dr. Simone made me feel very comfortable during my consultation. He was thorough and patient and explained my procedure very clearly. He and his staff really helped reduce my nervousness. My surgery went very well and I am extremely pleased with my results as is my husband. When I couldn’t come in for a post-operative visit during the week, he came in especially for me on the weekend. I would do it all over again. ”
